Little Moose Lake is remote and scenic. In fact, it's a ten mile round trip though much of the route is on old roads that make for relatively easy walking. Until 2006 This lake was the site of sportsmen's camp on land leased from lumber companies, and remains of the burned camp buildings are still present.
Directions | From Indian Lake follow the Cedar River Road south for approximately 12 miles to the Cedar River Flow ranger station (which is closed). From the headquarters continue for approximately a mile to a small parking area on the right. The route starts here where the Northville Lake Placid trail leaves the road. |
Difficulty | The route is mostly flat over easily walked old roads. But it is a ten mile round trip, pushing it into the difficult category. |
Family-Friendly | If your kids can walk ten miles you have tough kids. Take plenty of snacks. |
Winter | The only access to the trailhead in the winter is by snowmobile on the Cedar River Road. This would be great route for cross-country skiing if you can get there. |
One Thing to Know | A sportsmen club held a 100 year lease on the tract that includes little moose lake. The property was acquired by the State in 2006 when that lease expired. The book Moose River Plains Volume 1, by William OHearns describes the history of the club and the property. |
