The Buck Mountain Tower is on private land and the Town of Long Lake has refurbished the tower and secured an easement to allow public access. The two mile round trip offers an outstanding 360 degree view from the fire tower.
Directions | From Long Lake, drive north on Route 30 towards Tupper Lake. After about 6 miles watch for the signs and turn to Sabattis. There is also a large sign pointing the way to the Buck Mountain Fire Tower. Two miles along the Sabattis brings you to the large parking area is on the right. |
Difficulty | Easy. The round trip distance is 2 miles with 500 feet of elevation gain. There are stairs to make it easy to ascend steep areas near the top. |
Family-Friendly | This is a great family hike. The view from the tower is outstanding and kids will love the stairs on the trail. |
Winter | This trail will be good for snowshoeing in the winter but care will be needed on the stairs and on the tower itself. |
One Thing to Know | This is a 'private' tower built by Whitney industries to keep watch on the lands of Whitney Park. The tower is located on private land and a conservation easement was acquired by the Town of Long Lake to allow public access. |
